Michaela J Davies Limited strongly believes in the need for fair trade and operates within ethical business standards. Our clients are always pleased to learn that we are as discerning about origins of our products as we are about their quality.
We personally source the highest quality hand-made gifts from specialist companies around the world. This gives us the opportunity to inspect, first-hand, the companies which produce our collections.
We support the development of specialist businesses who obtain their raw materials from their own countries to help develop their local economies. Our partnering policy gives preference, where practicable, to products and companies that cause the least harm to the environment.
Our products are sourced from non-exploitive producers, who receive fair commercial rates for their work. We ensure that the working conditions of our producers meet our ethical standards and personally visit our producers places of manufacture to verify this.
We ensure that our partners do not use child labour. All workers are older than the local age for leaving compulsory education, and, in any event, older than fifteen years of age. We require our partners to verify the age of their workers and obtain and maintain proof of age.
All partners must follow local regulations/legislation regarding working hours and conditions. Partners must provide remuneration that at least matches local rates and that legal legislation for overtime payment is met.
We require that partners employ workers on the basis of their ability and do not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race, maternity/marital status, cultural or religious beliefs.
We require that partners operate a clean and safe workplace: one that is in compliance with local regulations/legislation. This includes ensuring that access is provided to clean drinking water, washing facilities and toilets. Workplaces must have adequate ventilation, lighting, fire exits and fire extinguishers.
